Finding student housing in Oslo
Make sure you apply as early as possible as the housing units are offered according to the ‘first come first serve’ principle, and the deadline to apply is June 1st. You can find more information about SiO housing and how to apply here. You do not need to pay anything now!
How to secure your student accomodation:
1. Find where you want to stay
SiO - Studentsamskipnaden (Student association in Oslo) have a great site for finding and applying for student housing for international students. Go to SiO´s Housing page and look for your student accommodations.
We recommend applying for rooms in “Stensberggata Student House” which is in ca. 10 minutes walking distance to Oslo New University College/or 3 minutes bus drive. This is in a nice area with coffee shops and grocery stores.
“St. Hanshaugen Student Village” is also in walking distance. “Pilestredet Student House” and “Nydalen student house” are also located fairly close to ONH (a short bus ride) – you could also choose these as last options in the application.
In addition to SiO, you can apply for housing through Anker Studentbolig, which offers several student residence locations across Oslo.
Feel free to apply to both SiO and Anker! Once your applications are in, ONH will follow up to let you know which provider is most likely to offer you a room.
Important: Demand for housing in Oslo is high. Be sure to select as many housing preferences as possible in your application to maximize your chances of securing a place.
2. Send your application
Send in your application through the site of SiO or Anker, as soon as you have accepted the offer from ONH. You will most likely receive an offer for housing around the beginning of June. You will then have two weeks to pay a deposit (which will be refunded), and two weeks right to cancel. Your first rent will most likely be due August 1st.
When applying for a room, please choose “Furnished” and “Short time rent”.
3. Check your email and spam-folder
Please be aware that emails with housing offers can go to your spam folder. You will also only have a couple of days to sign the housing contract once you have received an offer, so make sure to check your email and spam folder frequently as soon as you have submitted your application.
4. Notify international office when you have sent your application
Please notify international@oslonh.no as soon as you have sent an application so that I can let the housing company know you applied.
