Workplaces are becoming more digital, with work happening across platforms and locations. Technology shapes how we work, while human factors shape how we handle it.

About the subject

Workplaces are becoming more digital in several ways: We use digital tools at work, while the work itself largely takes place on digital surfaces and collaboration arenas. The digital work environment cuts across time, place and organisations. Digital technology affects how we work, while our characteristics as colleagues and human beings affect how we relate to opportunities and challenges in the digital workplace. 

 

Knowledge

  • Has knowledge about collaboration, group processes, team organization, work environment, and leadership in digital contexts including their academic foundation in current research.  
  • Has knowledge of key characteristics of the digital workplace such as remote work and virtual teams and how they shape collaboration and work outcomes.  
  • Understands how individual characteristics, work environment, and leadership jointly shape team processes and outcomes in digital settings.  
  • Understands how culture and diversity influence digital collaboration, inclusion, and communication.   

Skills

  • Can apply knowledge into digital work processes and team leadership to analyze practice-relevant challenges and provide advice on the design of work processes and collaboration methods.  
  • Can reflect on and evaluate how individuals, teams, and leaders influence the work environment and group dynamics in digital settings. 
  • Can locate, assess, and correctly reference research and professional sources, and to actively use literature to diagnose opportunities and challenges related to the digitalization of the work environment.  
  • Can discuss and evaluate the suitability of alternative approaches, methods, and tools for collaboration and team leadership in specific digital contexts.   

Competence

  • Can communicate about academic content, work methods, and subject matter in writing and orally, using relevant professional terminology.  
  • Can exchange viewpoints and discuss professional issues in multidisciplinary environments, contributing constructively to collaboration and work processes.  

Course work

Written assignment that has received a passing grade.

  • Oral assignment that has received a passing grade. 

Exam

An individual written home exam carried out within 48 hours, consisting of 2,000 words (+/- 10%) according to the specified format requirements and referencing style. The content of the exam is based on the learning outcomes. The exam paper is graded on a letter scale (A – F).
