Kjetil Tronvoll forsker på politisk utvikling, konflikt- og fredsprosesser
Hovedforskningsinteresse som aktivt følges:
- Konfliktdynamikker
- Kjetil har gjort datainnsamling, analyse og publisert på konfliktprosesser på Afrikas Horn (mellom Eritrea-Etiopia, og internt i Etiopia) i snaut 30 år.
- Freds- og forsoningsprosesser
- Kjetil følger den nye Eritrea-Etiopia fredsprosessen som ble igangsatt sommeren 2018 tett, og har allerede hatt flere feltarbeid på grensen mellom de to landene. I tillegg jobber han tett med å analysere forsøk og muligheter til politisk forsoning på Zanzibar mellom regjeringspartiet CCM og opposisjonen CUF.
- Menneskerettigheter / Transitional justice
- Hvordan forstås implementering eller brudd på menneskerettigheter på bakken i et afrikansk land? Hvordan skal land i politisk konflikt og overgangsprosesser behandle og adressere massive menneskerettighetsbrudd? Dette er sprøsmål Kjetil har forsket på og følger tett i Eritrea og Etiopia.
- Valg- og demokratiseringsprosesser
- Kjetil har forsket på og deltatt som valgobservatør i en rekke afrikanske land. Han har publisert bøker og artikler om valgprosessene i Etiopia og Zanzibar, et felt han jobber kontinuerlig med å analysere og forstå.
